Short description
Istikan Studio is a seven-person game studio in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and the games department of Tornet. Games brewed in Erbil, served to the world.
Long description
Named after the istikan, the little tulip tea glass found in every home and bazaar in the region, Istikan Studio makes cozy, tactile and culturally grounded games for Steam, mobile, web and carrier channels. The team of three developers, three artists and one manager works in three pods of two and takes ideas from prototype to store in three to six months, with design, art, engineering, QA and live updates all done in-house.
The studio launched seven games in twelve months. Its hit Istikan Chai, a cozy time-management game about running a chai stall in Erbil, Baghdad, Amman and Riyadh, is played in 11 languages, and over 75% of its Steam sales come from China, with zero marketing and no publisher. Next up is Tikka & Kebab, a charcoal grill house sim built with Chinese from day one.
